Ø   Tesco 99 Octane – Motorsport Fuel Supplied by Greenergy

What is Tesco 99 Octane?

Tesco 99 Octane contains a specially formulated mix of high quality petrol components, carefully blended to achieve 99 Octane (RON).  These typically include 5% bioethanol, a renewable but also high-octane product.  The fuel also contains an enhanced additive package in order to remove engine deposits and keep engines running smoothly.

The Fuel is available to drivers at more than 170 Tesco stores nationally and increasing every week.

Why did Greenergy develop the fuel?

Andrew Owens, Greenergy’s MD, set out to create a fuel which maximized the power output from the Subaru Impreza N10 that he co-drives.  He was aware that some of the specialized motorsport fuels on the market exceeded the legal maximum limits for some types of harmful fuel that provided a safe working environment for his mechanics and crew.  His blend maximizes RON (research octane number), MON (motor octane number) and energy content whilst remaining within the legal limit for aromatics (Components of petrol that are carcinogenic).  The RON and MON levels in the motorsport control fuel are both very close to the maximum permitted under FIA rules.

How does bioethanol usage cut GHS?

Bioethanol is made from crops such as wheat, sugar beet, sugar cane or corn.  These crops absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, as they grow via a process called photosynthesis.  This offsets some of the carbon dioxide that is emitted when the fuel is used in the car.

Why has the BRC introduced a control Fuel?

Petrol is a highly volatile and flammable substance and spillage can lead to explosions.  In order to minimize risk to competitors, service crew and spectators the fuel will be dispensed through a dedicated re-fueling zone to ensure that it is carried out safely. Also to improve the reputation of the sport by encouraging the use of a more environmentally friendly fuel.

What is the control Fuel?

1.  TESCO 99 Octane motorsport control fuel conforming to FIA specifications.

2.  TESCO 99 Octane, as available at TESCO forecourts.

Both grades of fuel are made and supplied by Greenergy.
