Past

I was born in St David’s Hospital in April 1981 in Cardiff, Wales and lived on Allan Durst Close.  (You can guess where my name came from) We didn’t stay long due to my Dad’s work commitments and had to leave to live in South Africa where I spent most of my childhood.

Though I missed the Group B years in the 80’s being in SA and being so young, I was told a great story by my Dad a couple of years ago on how close we were to these unforgettable cars….

….One day my Dad was driving us through a town called Brakpan on the outskirts of Johannesburg and noticed what it seemed like, a course car going past us.  He was shocked and couldn’t believe it. (a course car here in SA?) He decided to follow it.  We ended up going down some streets we never ever been down before and were wondering where we were going.  Next thing we knew an Ex-works Audi A2 Quattro overtook us (owned by one of the richest men who lived in the area), my Dad was thrilled and we stayed with it till we got to the stages.  We spent the rest of the day watching the rally.  (Wish I could remember it but must have been about 4 yrs old at the time)

We returned back to the UK in 1989 to live in Heywood, North Manchester with some friends from SA. We lived in the area for a few years and moved to where I live now, Middleton, Manchester the next town in 1997.  When we got back to the UK we always tried to watch the RAC at Chatsworth, watching the likes of Carlos Sainz in his Toyota trying to beat the unstoppable Lancias in the rain and mud. You could say I’ve always been around rallying all my life and it was destiny for me to take it up.

Present

I now work for TESCO in Oldham, Chadderton where all my rally budget comes from.  I am a member of Stockport 061 MC Club night is on Thursdays, sometimes work does not permit me to go (work till 10 some evenings) but I do my best.  My social life consists of spending as much time on the rally car.  In 2004 & 05 I competed in the ANWCC Stage Rally Championship and enjoyed it a lot, winning some class awards and club awards on the way.….

….Along side this website I have also created a myspace page.

Please feel free to add me as a friend.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Future

My ambition is to compete in the Wales Rally GB so that is still on the top of my list. Any plans will be on the website so keep looking.  Thank you!!

Here are some pictures of my favourite rally cars of all time from Group B

MG Metro 6r4, Renault 5 Turbo Maxi, Lancia Delta S4, Peugoet 205 T16 and Audi Quattro S1

One of the reasons why I like these cars so much is the sound they make.  Here is a sound clip of an Audi Quattro S1.  Turn the volume up, sit back and imagine you are watching this monstrous machine go past you.
